This is Europe’s biggest airport building site: in September 2006 work started on building the new airport for the Berlin and Brandenburg region. The construction site itself is the size of 2,000 football pitches; up to 3,000 construction workers have worked here daily for the past four years. The topping-out ceremony for the new terminal and the start of building work for the Airport City were key milestones on the BBI site this year.
Finally: today, construction workers have mounted the last of a total of 1,500 glass panes on the terminal façade. The BBI terminal is now ready for winter. The complete façade hangs from the BBI terminal roof and is stabilised by a special metal construction, the so-called suspension cable truss.
